Ben Howard - Old Pine

The video matches the song very well as the song is very calm and relaxing and the video cuts to different parts of nature such as water, grass and trees which gives a quite relaxing feel to the video when watching it. We see different camera angles mostly following the singer himself walking, this gives a feel its like an adventure making the audience want to know where he is going and how the video is going to end.

The light is bright and the camera shows the reflection of the sun in some of the shots, gives it that sense of it being relaxing and nice place to be. The colour Orange is throughout the video with the sun sets, it gives a quite happy feel to the video which matches the song and its lyrics. The cuts to the different scenes are slow but makes the video flow with the beginning of the instrumental bit of the song. At 1.18 the camera uses a low angle shot where the camera is placed on the floor, the man walking towards the camera is out of focus. This shot flows in from the previous shot of him walking down the road and the camera watching him walk in the distance. This camera is really effective as it gives it a different look. At 1.36 the camera shows the setting and the clouds speed up, this is really effective as the song is starting to kick in and the clouds show time passing by.

Each part of the video matches the lyrics of the songs giving a narrative to it, like "We slept like dogs by the fire side" the camera cuts to a fire and what they did and "As the old pine fell we sang" it shows trees. The song is about memories and video shows different things he does while remembering what he did. The camera uses medium close up shots of the singer Ben Howard's face while he sings, this shows the singers expressions changing throughout the song.

The video has a unique look to as it shows different places that could be linked to the singer. The different shots of nature are effective and works well with song lyrics as it describes a lot of things he is showing in the video. The quick shots of the singer are still effective as it makes you more interested in the video and makes him more recognizable. The video shows the different scenes of him and friends having fun which fits perfectly with what the song is trying to show.

Indie Pop

The genre of music we want to use for our music video is 'Indie Pop'. We wanted to use this genre because of the different artists that are in this genre and are very unique. The music videos for the genre are different compared to other genres like rock and pop. More of the videos are narrative which is what we want to do with our music video as we think these are interesting. Successful Indie Pop artists are, Florence + the machine, Marina and the Diamonds, Bon Iver, Llana del rey, Two door cinema club and The Vaccines.
