Rough Cut

This is the unfinished version of our music video to the song 'Lovers Eyes' which is orginally by Mumford and Sons but we used a YouTube cover of the song. For the next few days of editing to finish it off we just need to put the ending together and adding some little touches to it too make it perfect. We need to slow down some of our other shots because it has made some of the narrative quite unclear, so by slowing down the shots hopefully this will make it more clear to the audience. The shots in black and white have worked really well how we wanted them too. They have contrasted with the colour shots and you can see the change of atmosphere with this shots. On the shots with the red balloon some of them need to be edited because of the contrast and the movement of the balloon has made it difficult for us when making it red.
The next step for us to add all the finishing clips to the video and make sure all the colouring on the video's are perfect and to make sure our narrative is clear. I am happy so far with our music video as i really like the red balloon effect and think it makes it very unique, i think once we have made all the changes for the final edit it should look even better.

Lana Del Rey album

When doing research on album covers i analysed Lana Del Rey's 'Born To Die' album. She has recently released a new edition to her 'Born To Die' album with a different image and different colour scheme. She has left the same layout which still links to the first album so it is still reconisable to the audience. The image in the first album is quite a powerful image because she is looking down to the camera, whereas, the image of her on her new cover she is looking directly into the camera and it really draws your eyes to the cover. She has still stuck with the nature theme which we have looked at throughout researching Indie pop and have realised this is a main theme within the genre. Even though the artist name is very big and bold, we have decided not to follow this as we think with our choice of image it would be too much for the cover. We have made sure we have followed these indie pop conventions and included them in our project, with researching the different album covers we get an idea as a group what we don't like and what we do like. This is helpful with the two different album covers as it shows the look as an artist she is trying to show, this gives us ideas for making the album cover and advert slightly different but still make it reconisable to the audience when they see them both.

Album Cover and Back Cover Idea

This is another album cover idea but with both the back and front together. We have kept the placement of the title on the front cover in the left top corner, as any where else on the image the title of the artist and album name wouldn't be reconisable. The text being in the left corner doesn't take your eye away from the image as it's such a good quality image we don't want the audience to ignore it. The back album cover is very simple but we aren't sure if we are defiantly using this image, the image still links to the whole theme at the beach and still matches the front cover. The text is very simple and easy to read on the back ground.

Call Sheet

Time to Meet
9:20 am.

Location to meet
Sixth Form Common Room

Location
Framwellgate

Description of Location
We are going to be using a long field, so we can highlight the depth of the freedom the couple had whilst being in a relationship. The field is isolated away, and is very basic which is all we wanted for these scenes.

Group
Ellie Snowdon, Sarah Hewitt, Kelly Senior and Catherine Kirk.

Characters
Catherine Kirk, playing the female in the music video and Ryan Hawkins playing the male lover.
Props We dont need any probs for these scenes of footage.

Special instructions
Come prepeared even though the weather is supposed to be a little sunny, bring warm clothes just in case the actors have to stand around for a while. Toilets are nearby.

Album Idea

Here is another album cover idea, we have re-arranged the text in different places. We have done this so we have a good idea of how it looks in different ways. On this design idea we have made 'Elliot Guy' bigger than the album name to make him as an artist more reconisable. The name of the album fits under his name and stands out under it, the position of the text stands out to the eye straight away. We want the text at the top of the image because of the lightness of the colour, if we put it at the bottom of the image it wont be as reconisable and the image is darker and it would be harder to read.

The second design idea is much different to the first one, the layout of the text is at the side because we don't want to direct the audience's eye's away from the image but to still be able to notice the text. 'Elliot Guy' is bigger than the album name again because we want his name to stand out and the album name is still noticable. I like this one the best because the layout of the image and the text isn't too much on the page.

Filming Today

Finally, we got to film our final shots for our music video of the relationship. This was successful as the weather held out for us and just when we had finished filming it started to rain. We had to change the plan of our location because we were going to be doing it in some fields in Newton Hall but because filming has been delayed we decided it would be best to just film in the school field. We got as many shots as we could to make sure we have filled the rest of the music video up, we tried to get more varied shots because we knew that we hadn't used enough shots when filming on the beach. We included different shots of their feet walking towards and away from the camera, hand held shots of the two having fun and just general shots of them having fun, which is what we want to show when we show these memories.

Album Cover Idea 2

This is another possible album cover idea, we took the image when we were filming for our music video in South Sheilds. This one is more striking to the audience's eye and it matches the music video with the girl and the red balloons. I think this would be an effective album cover as it shows the location we have focused everything around and it links to our story. The red balloons looks good and because it's our logo too, it would make our artist stand out with the red balloon being symbolic.

Mumford and Sons

Last night we went to see the band we are using the cover of Mumford and Sons, it was amazing. This really helped us see the way they present themselves as a band and what the stage set up was like. The feel of the arena was festively and like a carnival, and because of the genre they are in Indie Pop they used the typical conventions on their stage of outside lights and an outside feel to the whole concert, which when we have researched the genre they have used these typical indie pop conventions during their videos and album work. This has allowed us to look more at how we want to present our artist. In these images it shows that light was a main aspect during their performance and sets the mood with our music video we have used black and white which empathises the mood we are trying to set with our video and story, and the different colours we are using on our album cover.

Album Name Fonts

From the song we have choosen to the name of the album cover we have linked it all together as the song presents a relationship, we thought 'The Root Of Memories' is a good name for our album as it matches our music video of showing memories.
The Root of
Memories
This text is really effective as it stands out to the eye straight away, the bold writing would look good infront of the image we are thinking about using. 'Memories' is bigger than 'The Root Of' which stands out more, the simplicitic font is effective as it isn't too much to look at and it doesn't make it look too busy on the page.
The Root of Memories
This font is very old fashioned and sophisticated, this looks like a news heading and stands out on the page straight away with the boldness. The text seems quite romantic and matches the theme of our music video/album, with the image we are thinking of using it will stand out on top of it. Again we have used a simplictic font so not going over the top.
The Root of Memories
This font is different to the other two, we wanted to see what different font styles would look like and if we liked the look of them. This one isn't our favourite because it seems quite busy on the page, the writing still matches what we have researched. This font isn't as bold as the other two and it doesn't really stand out. However, we have sticked

Album Idea

This is an idea of the back cover of the album, we aren't defiantly going to be using this idea but it gives us a general idea of what we are wanting for the album cover. It looks really effective with the writing on top of the beach image and it's quite an iconic image for our artist as we have used the beach scene throughout our filming and images.

Clouds Problem

We wanted to include clouds in our music video and speed it up so we could see the clouds moving, the other day we filmed in lesson of the clouds for half an hour unfortunately the footage wasn't very good because the camera was trying to focus on something and the camera kept zooming in and out. When viewing it on the video maker we tryed to fast forward it to make the clouds move but it wasn't successful. When doing this again next we need to take the focus off the camera so it works, it would also help if the weather was slightly windy so the clouds move faster as when we filmed last it wasn't windy at all.

Artist Name Font

As a group we have decided to think of different artist names to use and also looked at different fonts that we think would look really good on our digi-pack cover. We decided on Elliot Guy because we thought it sounded quite unique and different to any other artists we have heard of, when researching indie pop artists they usually had quite a unique name and this is what we wanted.

Elliot Guy
We wanted a quite simple font for the name of our artist and this one is simple and the font size is a right size for the audience to view. It's clear and spaced out which makes it easier to read.
Elliot Guy

This text is quite similar to Eliza Doolittle's font, we took the idea of the bold letters but made it less girly, we wanted to make it look quite bold to stand out on the digi-pack so the audience can see clearly who the artist is, this isn't my favourite one but is still an effective font.

Elliot Guy

I really like this font because it seems very sophisticated and the music we are using matches the sophisicated theme. I think it would look really good on the album cover and when we researched different fonts they have similar fonts like this one and we think this matches the indie Pop genre.

Digi-Pack Pictures

When we filmed at the beach I took some pictures of the beach and a picture which was on the wall, we thought the big picture would look really good in our digi-pack as our music video is all about memories and remembering the past. We are thinking of using a simple image for our album cover of a beach but as a group we aren't a 100% sure yet. We think if we do use the beach image it will look really effective with the texts we are looking at using over the top.

Black and White shots

We put some clips together which we have shot ourselves into a quick short clip showing some of our scenery shots, we put them in black and white because we think it makes the shots look more proffessional and it matches the tone of the video as we are showing a lonely, sad feel to it. When filming at the beach we took random clips of things we found on the beach like, rocks, grass and the waves so we had enough shots to match the scenery shots we had seen in Indie Pop especially Ben Howard's video where we got our main idea from with the scenery shots.

Overview

Over the past few months our group have researched into the conventions of indie pop video's, we have looked at specific music videos and took each video into consideration of what we want our video to have a look of such as, certain camera angles they use, scenery and even clothes they wear. We have also looked at way in which they promote themselves by CD's and posters and seeing how they make themselves iconic to their audience's so looked at these so we have an idea of how we are going to produce something like that for our project. I think with the amount of research we have done as a group we have gained a better knowledge of how we can make the right Indie pop video and making sure we have all the conventions of an indie pop video in our music video. We have made sure we have shown this throughout our blog with posts of costume idea's, location and props and made sure the story we are trying to tell is clear to everyone who will be viewing our blog and video at the end of the project.

We eventually got to film after the weather being a issue a few times,  we managed to shoot part of our music video involving the beach location which is the main focus of the video, we managed to get every shot we wanted at the beach that we had shown on our storyboard, and the weather wasn't a problem on the day of filming. We were a lot more organised than we have been on any other task we have done as a group as we made sure we had everything we needed, we took extra shots to make sure we had got the right amount of shots and in case some weren't good enough we had extra. When looking back at the shots we took we were all pleased with the outcome and had plenty of shots to choose from and more of a variety to use in the final piece. At the moment we are waiting to shoot our next bits of the music video of the relationship, hopefully this will be shot this week but again because the weather has been really bad we are not sure we will be able to film where we would like to because it will be very muddy. This will allow us to then concentrate on editing the full film and getting a rough shot in for the end of the week, we want to be able to focus more on editing so we can see what the flashbacks will look like and if our idea will work with the beach shots we have already took.

From the last project i can see by looking at my blog that i have wrote a lot more and have gone into a lot more detail with my post's. I have become more organised and prepared for planning and filming and made sure i have enough research to know where our music video is going to, with the amount of research i have done within the indie pop genre i can see what i need to include in our music video.

Balloon Problem

We have had some problems with the editing software as it's a lot different to what we are used to using, we are using the effect called 'Leaves Colour' to make the balloon red while everything else is in black and white effect, we have had a problem with this though as it is making some area's of the clip red which isn't supposed to be such as, Catherine's hair and face. This is because on certain clips the sun has been shining and the effect is picking up on the light, we are trying to find a way to sort it out and if it doesn't work trying to find a way that we can still keep our original idea.

Leaves Colour

Originally we wanted to use the effect 'Matte' on the balloon to make it red whilst everything else was black and white however, we can't do this because when filming it was quite windy and the effect doesn't work. The group knew that if it was windy that we would have to change the effect we were planning on using to find something that would be much better use to us. During this week we have been looking at our footage and playing around with them seeing how we would make the balloon red and the rest of the footage black and white, we thought we wouldn't be able to do it as we were having difficulties with finding a effect. Luckily we found the effect called 'Leaves Colour' we found this would be much better than the 'Matte' effect as the wind isn't effecting the balloon. We realised that the sun was shining on certain parts of the balloon the effect misses some of the red out of it but this isn't very noticeable and looks quite effective on some shots but with other shots of the balloon the sun is going to be shining in different directions leaving us with a problem of trying to make the whole balloon red without half of the red missing from it.

Below is an image of the how we have been using the 'Leave Colour Effect'

Behind The Scenes

These are the behind the scenes photos from our shoot the other week, we took a few extra camera's to capture some photos to show the behind the scene shots and to show what we got up to.

Filming

We filmed on the 11th of November and the weather was perfectly fine except for a bit of wind, which made filming a little bit harder because the balloon was moving all over the place. We brought the story board with us so we made sure we got every shot that we needed including extra ones so we had extra shots incase we didn't get what we wanted. All the equipment was fine untill the second video camera battery died but luckily we had another video to capture the shots we needed, we also brought some other little cameras to catch some behind the scene shots and took some photos, we also brought two red balloon to make sure the other one didnt blow away or pop that we had a spare one with us.

When looking through all the other shots we did we noticed we didnt do a lot of variety of different camera angles such as, pans, close-ups and long shots. To make our video have more different camera angles we will use more shots when shooting the reminsicing shots we will use a lot more shots to get our video to a higer mark.

Filming Delay

Unfortunatly we were supposed to be filming today but our friend Ryan Hawkins is very ill today and didn't feel up to filming for us, we wanted to film the flash backs of the relationship. This will not put us behind on our filming because we are still planning for our shoot on Sunday 11th for our beach shots, which is the majority of our film.

The location we are using in South Shields is the beach near the ammusements. It's is very near a lighthouse, pier and an old ruin of a castle which will all be used in our scenery shots. The beach is very clean, and there are plenty of sand dunes and dainty places looking onto the beach that we will be able to catch some fantastic shots in. Be prepeared as it will be cold.

Group
Sarah Hewitt, Catherine Kirk, Kelly Senior and Ellie Snowball

Characters
Catherine Kirk.
Props A bag of red balloons, a few will be filled with helium before the day of shooting the footage. String will be needed, to tie the balloon. The balloons without helium in them will be used as a back up plan.

Special Instruction
Bring warm clothing jackets, hats, gloves and scarfs. It will be very cold, so wrap up warm. We will provide a towel for Catherine Kirk during shooting. Also please bring some money if you wish to buy food and drink whilst we are filming, there are many

Alternative ideas

We have decided on an alternative location in case we can't film on the beach because of the weather or travel. We have decided that we would use the same location that we are using for the second filming which includes the boy, we think this would still fit in with the theme and would still look as good as the beach, the location has interesting spots which would look good when filming. If we do shoot at the same place where we are planning on filming the reminiscing scenes that they don't look too similar to the shots of the girl on her own, we want it to be clear to the audience about the different scenes we are trying to show.

Filming 11th November

Because we couldn't film on November 3rd we have rearranged for the 11th, this is easier for us all as we are all free and when we checked the weather forcast it is supposed to be sunny which is what we want for us to get the best shot.

Filming delay

Unfortunately, we couldn't film on the 3rd of November due to the weather. We had checked the weather forcast and the weather was supposed to be bad for South Sheilds, we didn't want to risk traveling to South Sheilds with all the filming equipment and the weather being bad, we have decided to rearrange filming for sunday 11th as this is easier for the rest of the group, hopefully the weather will be good!

Location photos

Ellie went to take pictures of the location on Monday night so we have an idea of different areas of the beach we can use. The top 5 pictures show the place we are planning on using in our first few shots of our main character walking up, it will show the beginning of the beach scenes, it's a really nice place of the beach and hopefully the weather will be as good as it was when the pictures were taken so we can get shots of the sun and clear skies. Ellie looked for a near by bench which we wanted to include in the video of her sitting down and looking quite isolated, there's wasn't a one near the beach so we have decided that a shot on the sand dunes would be a nice shot and make her look even more iscolated. With the sand dune being up a height we will get some effective shots using high angle and low angle shots looking up at her or looking down at the sea. We want to take several shots of the waves splashing in on the beach and the pictures above really show some good shots which we are hoping to include.
