Location photos

Ellie went to take pictures of the location on Monday night so we have an idea of different areas of the beach we can use. The top 5 pictures show the place we are planning on using in our first few shots of our main character walking up, it will show the beginning of the beach scenes, it's a really nice place of the beach and hopefully the weather will be as good as it was when the pictures were taken so we can get shots of the sun and clear skies. Ellie looked for a near by bench which we wanted to include in the video of her sitting down and looking quite isolated, there's wasn't a one near the beach so we have decided that a shot on the sand dunes would be a nice shot and make her look even more iscolated. With the sand dune being up a height we will get some effective shots using high angle and low angle shots looking up at her or looking down at the sea. We want to take several shots of the waves splashing in on the beach and the pictures above really show some good shots which we are hoping to include.

We put this short clip together showing the different shots we are thinking about including in the final video, by doing this we have a rough idea of what we are wanting to include and trying to show with the relationship and the individual shots of the girl. We put the song we are using over the top so we know what goes together. I like the use of the different shots together it makes the video flow.

Description of Location	The beach is near the light house which we are wanting take shots of for our video and is near lots of good places which we we are thinking about including in our video. Its near toilets and cafes which we need for spending all day there.
Cast	Kelly, Sarah, Ellie and Catherine
Characters	Catherine will be the main girl in the video and is the focus throughout the song.
Props	A bag of red balloon so we can fill it with helium and some string to attach to the balloon.
Special Instruction	Extra clothing to keep warm because it will be very cold and money to get food and drink. A towel because of the certain shots we might want to include, this will be necessary.

 

Pitch Video

We included this in our pitch a few weeks ago of different indie pop videos with the song we are planning on using over the top. These different videos show the variety of different shots each artists use and really show what we are wanting to include. Each video has a different look to it and we want to at least include some of these different looks to our video to make it unique. The black and white effect on the video 'No Hope' by The Vaccines is the what we want our video to look like and try and make it look that proffessional. We need to take into consideration all the different things each artist uses to make sure we get the element of indie pop into our music video.

Shots x2

We did some more shots but this time we focused outside because we are going to shooting most of our video outside, when we shot the other shots the quality of the camera wasn't that great which is something we need to remember when we do shoot our inside shot, the quality of the shots outside are really good. 

 

 

We want to include a shot of the girl looking over a barrier looking onto the sea, by doing these different shots we have an idea of what the shots will look like and what we think will look good on the final piece. I really like the shot above because of the background behind her and the emotion it gives across in the shot, this gives across what we are trying to show in our video. The two shots below are effective because it shows the surroundings she is in which we want to show when shoot the final video. With the location being a beach it gives it a quite romantic feel to it but because of the effect of black and white we are using it's gives the sense of depression, which is what we are wanting to show.

Treatment

Clothing

The clothing we are wanting the character to wear in our video is quite vintage because when we researched Indie-pop videos the artists tended to wear quite vintage clothes, female artists would wear dresses usually and this would link to their music style. We want the girl to look like she is dressed up to go somewhere, but really she is going to the beach to reminisce on her past relationship. We want her to be wearing quite dark colours like dark red,black which will represent her being in a dark place and that she is recovering from a break-up, when we see her looking back in the past she will be wearing more lighter colours like pinks and reds which conotate love. Below are some pictures of the artists i have looked at in my research and the clothes they are seen to wear are very vintage and 60 ish, which is what we want to show with the outfit our actor is wearing.

Summary of Pitch

Our music video is going to follow a narrative which we think will be effective for the type of genre we are focusing on and trying to make it unique. When we researched other indie pop music videos we saw that they do have a narrative story and this is what we want to include in ours. The story of our video is about a girl which the video will be focused on throughout the song and how she is shown to be thinking about her past relationship, the video is going to be shot in black and white because when we have looked at videos we think this is effective. We want to show the girl having flashbacks of her past relationship and showing the good times she had with her partner. We are using a balloon which is the focus of our project as we are using it as our logo, we want the balloon to be in red while the rest of the video is in black and white because we think this will really make our video unique and give it a different look, we are using the colour red because the colour is a symobol of love. We are wanting to catch a shot maybe the balloon flying away or in the sea which will symbolises the end of their relationship. When the video skips to the bits she is remembering we want them in colour and we are going to focus on body language because we don't really want to show the boy we are using in the video.

Props

Throughout the video the main prop will be the red balloon because that is the focus of our video. The idea of the balloon is to represent the love of her relationship, it will stand out to the audience more because of the effect we are planning on using. We need to make sure we have a bright and bold coloured balloon so when we do the MATTE effect on the balloon it stands out and doesn't fade into the back ground.

Location

We are planning on shooting at South Sheilds beach because it's easy access for us to get there. The setting is perfect to match the story we are showing, the beach has a pier and light house which we are hoping to include in the video, we want the a shot of girl walking down the pier as this would be a really effective shot. The beach is quite public which we need to think about because we dont want the public ruining a shot, but hopefully because of the time of year we are shooting (october) the beach shouldn't be as busy as it would be in the summer, with the beach hopefully being empty it will create this iscolated and lonely look which is what we want it to look like.

Summary of this week

This week as a group we have been working on starting to plan for our music video and making sure we had got the last bits of research done. We have focused on the different shots we are wanting to use by doing test shots of the main girl we are using and having close-ups of her smile and face while being happy and body language of the boy and girl holding hands, we thought we would test this out first to see what it looks like so we have an idea of what it will look like on the final piece. We have also started to think about the outfits we are wanting our main girl to be wearing and how we are going to shoot some of the other shots we are planning on using.
We have started our story board and started to think of how every shot will fit in together and the different effects we are wanting to use when we finally get round to editing. Also how we are going to show her reminiscing on her past and how we are going to show this to the audience who are viewing the video.

Shots

Here are some of the shot we are wanting to include for our music video for the body language we are wanting to show. We wanted to include close-ups of her smile and the couple holding hands to show their relationship being in a good place. The extreme close-ups of her smile and laughter show the audience her past relationship, which is what we want to show with shots of her looking back on her memories with her boyfriend in the real music video. The shot of her sitting on a bench is something we want to include in the music video because we want her sitting on a bench on the beach, we want to include this because it'll give an image of her being alone sitting reminiscing on the past. We think these different shots will be effective in our video because it something quite unique as we aren't going to be seeing the boy a lot only really by these kind of shots.

Ed Sheeran - The A Team

Ed Sheeran's video for his song 'The A team' focuses on the narrative of a young girl who is homeless and what she has to do to try and get herself some money, the whole video is shot in black and white and gives it quite a dark feel to the video because of the narrative story he is trying to show.

The beginning of the video starts with no music other than what sounds like a bird, this gives you an idea that it could be early through the morning that it is set. The use of close-up of the woman shows the emotion she has and how she is crying. The camera zooms out and we see a other woman lying down obviously dead, the effect of showing this first shows the end of the story at the beginning gives the audience an insight of what they are about to see ends in a bad way. The use of the close-up of the girl who is lying down is quite powerful image as her eyes are open you don't actually know if she is dead, the face then blurs out and the music video starts to go to her life and how she lives, this is when the music starts. With the music starting when we see the image of her lying on a park bench shows the music is about to describe her life and thats what the audience is about to see.

The image of her lying of a park bench automatically shows that she is homeless, its quite a strong image of her on the bench as it shows she is a young girl and she is alone. The focus of her on the bench makes the audience want to know what happens to her and why she is shown to be dead on the first few seconds of the video. We see a medium close-up of her face when she is in her sleeping bag showing her emotion on her face as soon as she wakes up, the shot showing her smudged make-up shows she is tired and is living rough because of her appearance. 

The camera follows her feet walking which shows the story the video is following is about her. The shot is effective because it shows that she is walking down a busy shopping street and she is wearing a sleeping bag and her appearance looks rough because of the rips in her tights. Making you feel sympathetic towards the girl the song is talking about, the use of the narrative story makes you think a lot more about what the artist is trying to show with his music. This shot creates the image that she doesn't belong in the place she is because of her image and she sticks out compared to people she is surrounded by. 

The image of her sitting on the street makes the audience have sympathy for the girl we are following, the people who are seen walking past of made to be in fast forward which gives the sense that she is sat there for a long period of time without anyone helping her. The effect of the traffic made faster also signifies her life going in slow motion and that she is helpless and doesn't know what to do with herself. We begin to feel even more sorry for the girl when the camera moves to a close-up of her face showing the emotion she is feeling, the close-up shows her crying it's quite an upsetting image of her on the streets as she looks quite young and doesn't really know how to help her self get out of the situation she is. 

We several shots of her in a bathroom putting make-up and wearing something different to what we have seen her wearing in the previous shots. This is then followed by a shot of her trying to flag down a car because she has turned to prostitution, the image is quite strong of the car headlights on her face as it shows her emotion of being scared and you can tell she is thinking about what she is about to do to herself. The story begins to link to the beginning of the music video of her lying dead and gives the audience an insight of what she gets herself into for her to die. We see more shots which prove she has gone into prostitution of her in a hotel room with a man, taking money out of his pocket and then a shot of her in bed showing the guilt on her face and how ashamed she is of herself. 

The image of the hands is something we want to show in our music video because of the use of body language shown in relationships. This is a strong image of the two different hands exchanging money for drugs and the story of the video starts to come to an end when we see her starting to take drugs again linking back to the beginning of the video it's clear how she dies. The next shots show her taking the drugs and the audience now understand the reality she is living in. The build up of her taking drugs and knowing what is about to happen to her gives some suspense of what is about to happen as the audience already know. 

The video ends with the image of the girl in the sky with the sun shining, this symbolises her in heaven and the audience now know that she has died. The video for 'The A Team' is a good video to link with the video we want to make as we want to show the video following a young girl on the beach and flashbacks of her relationship. We want our whole video to be shot in black and white because of the effect it gives that she is dark place and that she is thinking about her life and what happened in her relationship.
