Music Magazine Adverts

For our products we want to create a music magazine advert. We want it to represent the artist and the style they are showing in their music. With the research i have done by looking at other artists, all artists use their album cover on the album to advertise the album and the name of the artist is usually placed somewhere on the page that will draw the audience's eyes in straight away.

The advert for Florence and the Machine's album 'Lungs' the image of her stands out on the advert and the image of the lungs links to the album's name. The pose Florence is doing is very feminine matching the flowers behind her, it shows she is very elegant matching the music she produces. The advert is quite dark with the black background but with the pale colours of the flowers and the white text makes it stand out more and catches the audience's eye. 'Florence + the machine' is placed at the top of the advert, this draws the audience's eye straight away to see which artists the advert is advertising, her name is in the style of writing she uses on every product which makes it more recognisable towards the audience she is aiming at.

Noah And The Whales advert is very laid back and can tell that their music is very relaxing. The advert is very different to Florence's as the picture is right in the center and you focus straight away on florence. The title of the album 'The First Days of Spring' are in italics and is quite an old fashioned style it matches the advert being quite simple, the album name also stands out above the rest of the text on the advert this focuses your eyes straight to it and the audience straight away know what it's called and with the band name under its recognisable to the audience who's advert it is. The soft colours used on the advert portray the bands style and the kind of relaxed music they produce unlike someone like Lady Gaga who's album cover and advert would be loud and in your face. The advert appeals to the audience they are trying to appeal too. It has all the information on the advert that the audience will need to know, this is something we need to make sure we include.

Each artist advert have used their album cover image as the main image of the advert, this is important because it makes the audience recognise straight away when they see it in a shop. Ellie Golding's image is of herself and it really stands out on the poster, the light effects in her hair and behind her represents her album name 'Lights' . The image of her takes up most of the poster leaving a black space at the bottom which makes it easier to read the information. The style of font she uses with her name is feminine and the colour of it links back to her album name 'lights' with the colours that look quite luminous.

Logo

This is the logo design we are wanting to use for our album cover we think its a different logo compared to other artists. We want the audience to know when they see the balloon that they will think of the artist/band we are using. We are wanting to put the band name on the balloon string because we think this will be unique and different compared to other artists logo's. The balloon colour will be red because throughout our music video we are wanting the balloon to be red which represents love and this is what our song is going to show.

Artist's Logo's

Looking at the artists logos in our genre its really common that they don't really have a image as their logo but just really recognisable title. All the artists/bands i have looked at have a bold title and really stands out to the audience and matches their style of music, because of the artists we have looked at using a recognisable title we think by adding an image to our logo will make our artist a bit more unique and slightly different to the indie pop artists we have focused on in our research, but still staying with the theme. We want the red balloon to be our symbol throughout the different products we create and we think it'll be something the audience will remember.

Eliza's logo stands out a lot because of the style of writing, it makes her more recognisable because of the style of writing she uses. The use of making it big and bold really makes it stand out on the album cover as the image is really bold and loud and the logo being big and bold really stands out above the image on the album and draws the audience's eyes to whose album it is. The writing is really fun which matches the style of the artist and the music she produces.

Lana Del Rey's logo matches her style showing she is very sophisticated and old fashioned with her style of fashion and music. The writing is very simple but also stands out to the audience and draws their eyes to the name of the artist. The text is really nice as it is very feminine and classy which matches the artist really well. By looking at the text we can see already that its quite a sophisticated singer before you would even seen an image of her.

The Kooks logo is also again very simple with bold capital letters which stands out to the audience straight away. On the album covers we see most of the band name in the corner or small on the album cover, but with the size and placement of the logo it still works making it stand out and catch the audience's eye. The use of changing the colour fits with the album cover image instead of letting it blend in with the images. Its important to keep the same font throughout the different products because it becomes a trademark of the artist and it's easily recognisable when you see it somewhere.

Digi-Pak

We want to include a digi-pak with our project because it'll make it more proffessional when we are doing the album cover. We want to include pictures of the location we have used and a photoshoot of the girl on the beach, also a a behind the scene photo to give the audience a better insight to what went on during the shoot. It will add more of a tradmark to the album cover and link to the music video.

Lana Del Rey - Born to Die

Lana Del Rey's album cover is very bright with the blue skies and white which keeps a theme throughout the cover. The image of lana is quite a powerful image of Lana. The title of the album 'Born to Die' is very different to what the image is showing and the audience could be unsure what she is trying to show with her album cover. The colour blue and white can represent innocence but with the image of her looking down to the camera creates a different look to the cover, making her seem more in power and doesn't really match the innocence feel. The way she is dressed represents her style of being very vintage and old american and that she is quite high class which comes across in her music.

The back of the cover is very different compared to the front cover, the colour red is very bright and stands out compared to the natural colours on the front. The colour red can symbolise what a lot of her songs are trying to show in her lyrics like 'Born to Die' and 'Dark paradise' and represent love and death which in a lot of lyrics she is showing.

The booklet inside Lana's album shows a very different look to what is on the outside and what the audience see straight away.It has several photos of Lana which is typical for an inside of an album, the picture of her above shows her still looking quite innocent and matches the album cover. Whereas the pages with the song lyrics are very different compared to pictures of her, the blood splats give a different feel to the pages and make you think more about what she is trying to show with her music.

Song

The song we have choosen is 'Lovers Eyes' by Mumford & Sons. This matches our genre we are focusing on. We have choosen this song because the lyrics are really nice and match what we want to show in our music video. We did a survey on Kelly and Ellie's blog asking the rest of our class which song is best out of three, the majority said 'Lovers Eyes'. The song is quite slow and really fits in with the music video we want to create, we also think it will fit well with the location we are wanting to use.

We have choosen a cover of the song off YouTube which we have permission to use we just need to upload the photo for proof.

Mood

The mood for our music video is going to be quite slow and not very up beat because of the song we are using. The song we are using is about two lovers losing contact with each other. Throughout the video we are going to be showing close-ups of the two holding hands showing their relationship before and we think this will create a different mood to the video as the audience wont actually be seeing the boy in the relationship that much other than the body language used. The balloon will be throughout the video and the end we will see the balloon being released into the sea, representing the end of their relationship. We want to show flashbacks of the realtionship to create a different mood to what we are seeing her on the beach, this will show bits of their relationship.

We also want to create a home video look on the flashbacks which will be in colour, we want to do this to give it a unique look and make it different to the other music videos we have looked at. We want it to look as if she has been filming it and its showing her memories of her relationship.

Lady Gaga Album Cover

I really like this album cover by Lady Gaga because it shows how individual she is as an artist. The image of her being half motor bike shows how she is very different and how her style is constantly changing along with her music. I think it works because it stands out to the audience making them be more interested in her album. The title of the album really stands out above the black background, it matches the colour scheme of the motor bike making it all link in. The name 'Born This Way' represents Lady Gaga how she is very different and tries to prove a point with the way she dresses and the songs she sings, the title links to the image showing it doesn't matter what you are, you are 'Born This Way'. The album cover works because it is so unique compared to any other artists art work and shows she is individual, it catches the audience eye which makes them more interested in Lady Gaga and what she is like as an artist. Its also very different to her other album covers which makes her fans think about the album and what she is trying to show.

Location

We were thinking about shooting our final piece on the beach because we all thought it would be a good place to film and it would look good with the story we were thinking about. We aren't 100% sure on the story we want to show in the music video yet. The beach location is also perfect because it matches our genre we have been looking at and all the music videos we have looked at have similar locations. We also enjoyed filming outside when we did our practice task. Also we have now got an extra member to our group Kelly senior, she was also doing the same genre as us before she joined us, so this gives us more research and a lot more ideas to the group and final piece.
